The Laos Conservation Trust for Wildlife (LCTW) is deeply committed to addressing the numerous challenges that threaten the country’s unique biodiversity. One of the primary obstacles is the illegal wildlife trade, which endangers countless species and undermines conservation efforts. LCTW collaborates with local and international partners to combat this illicit activity.Habitat loss due to deforestation and land development is another significant issue. As natural habitats are destroyed, many species face displacement and decline. LCTW works to rehabilitate and release animals into protected areas, striving to counteract these effects.Additionally, limited resources and funding pose ongoing challenges. The organization relies heavily on donations and volunteer support to maintain its operations. Despite these hurdles, LCTW continues to make a positive impact through community engagement, education, and strategic partnerships. History: How and why LCTW began... The Laos Conservation Trust for Wildlife (LCTW) was founded in 2018 after taking over the old Lao Zoo site. The organization transitioned from being a place for showcasing exotic animals to becoming a safe haven for native wildlife. The goal was to create a facility dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing native wildlife affected by the illegal wildlife trade, as well as improving wildlife education and welfare in Laos.LCTW works closely with the Lao government to provide training for safe rescues and runs the only free hotline in Laos for reporting wildlife crime. Their mission is to reduce the illegal wildlife trade by educating local communities, assisting the government, and providing alternative incomes to reduce reliance on wildlife exploitation.
